OBS Studio: professional streaming and recording

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is the reference open-source solution for streaming to Twitch, YouTube and for high-quality screen recording.

Basic setup

  1. Download it from obsproject.com
  2. Run the automatic configuration wizard
  3. Create a scene and add sources (screen capture, window, webcam)
  4. Configure your output (Settings → Output):
    • Recording: MP4, high quality
    • Streaming: connect your Twitch/YouTube account
  5. Click "Start Recording" or "Start Streaming"

Tips

  • Use the x264 codec (CPU) or NVENC (Nvidia GPU) for encoding
  • Set the bitrate according to your connection (2500-6000 kbps for 1080p)
  • Test your scenes before streaming publicly
  • Install plugins via the OBS Studio Plugin Manager
